Great to meet you!

My name is Karen Skrzypek

I am a licensed master social worker.  I have been a therapist for 25 years.  I have a passion for adults and adolescents who are struggling with their mental health and substance use.  I have worked in many different settings throughout the years including psychiatric hospitals, partial hospital programs, detox and residential facilities, intensive outpatient programs, as well as group and individual therapy.

I am a wife and mother of 2 teenagers and understand how overwhelming life can be at times.  I have a passion for animals and have 2 dogs, 2 cats and a Moluccan Cockatoo.  When I am not working as a therapist, you might find me watching my daughter ride horses or play in the band and watching my son compete as a dancer!

How can I help?

I understand how hard it can be to reach out for help. I know that this may be the first time some of you have been able to ask for help and talk about these uncomfortable feelings and possibly shameful experiences. I strive to provide a safe space for my clients to feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings.  My clients tell me how much better they feel after one session.  I provide warm and caring conversation that will help you feel heard and understood.  I want to hear your story!  I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or that they are giving up their story to someone they don't know or don't feel they can trust.  I believe in moving at a pace that is comfortable for you.  Most clients tell me they feel that therapy with me is like talking to a friend while gaining insight and learning skills.  I want everyone to feel comfortable talking with me and want you to know that I am LGBTQIA+ allied and welcome clients of all races and religious backgrounds.

My therapy strategies include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction and Relapse Prevention to help facilitate meaningful changes.  My approach is to weave these therapies into our conversation so that you never really feel like you're "doing therapy".

I am also a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor and have helped many clients manage substance use issues.  My clients have come to me seeking help for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, ADHD, parenting support, relationship issues, academic struggles, poor job satisfaction, substance use, addiction, alcoholism, co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders (dual diagnosis), and other impulse-control issues including gambling, internet, pornography, and gaming.

My services are provided using a secure and HIPAA compliant video platform, electronic medical record, billing and email/texting services.  The video platform/electronic medical record and billing platform is called Therapy Notes.  You may see a link come to your email to set up a "Therapy Portal".  This is part of Therapy Notes.  My Google Suite which includes my email and Google Voice phone number/voice mail are also HIPAA compliant, encrypted and secure.  I also see some clients through Headway using Doxy as the HIPAA compliant video platform and Therapy Notes at my electronic medical record.
